2 year old sleep pattern completely changed

Since my son was about 7 months old he has slept through the night pretty much every night. It was very rare for him to wake in the night and even if he did he would either settle himself or me or his dad could settle him back down in minutes. Since he has turned 2 a few weeks ago he has become a different person. He has multiple night wakings, sometimes for over an hour and cannot be settled. He also only wants his dad and will cry even harder if I try and go in to settle him. He has woken up at 3:30am this morning with no signs of settling back down. I’m not so much looking for advice as much as to be reassured this is normal and will pass! I miss my baby who slept 11 hours straight without a peep.

Yes, it’s very normal. You’ve just been inordinately lucky so far. But sleep went completely tits up with both of mine around 22-24 months. Their brains are doing a huge amount of development and all that learning is consolidated during the night, so they don’t sleep well. You just need to ride it out really. Trade off between the two of you so you can both function the next day.

My user name started because of this almost exact situation! It was bananas for a while (about 6 weeks!) then it stopped thank god. Lots of development, molars pushing through and we also moved house. Just too much for him! Has your little one moved rooms at nursery recently?

My daughter starting sleeping through at 5 months and then it all went to pot at around 2 years. I wish someone had told me that sleep could get worse!

Just do whatever you can to get maximum sleep. My daughter still calls for us now at 6 years old but we just get in with her. She went straight into a double bed from her cot for this reason.
