What happens if DD gets another cold with an already perforated eardrum?

DD3 has had 2 recent ear infections and this morning has been complaining of more pain so took her to the docs and she said eardrum has a small hole in, but is dry and not angry so no antibiotics. Doc was confused by the pain as she said once it perforates it’s normally fine, but said to keep an eye on it.

Anyway, she did say that her throat looked sore and glands were up so possibly another cold coming, and I didn’t ask in the moment what will happen to the ear with a hole in if she does get another cold? Will it almost certainly get infected again? 😩 she did say the hole was very small but not sure how long they take to heal generally.

Advice much appreciated!

I was plagued by these when I was younger. I agree with the doctor that now it’s already perforated it should be ok. The important thing for me to prevent infection was for not to get any water in my ears
