Hi everyone,

My 10-year-old son has a cell because sometimes I need to speak with him to arrange with him when I'll pick him up, because of his sports, etc... Doesn't matter..

Anyway, I'm seeing that many kids of his age has a cell, they already created groups on WhatsApp where they speak with each other, even pass information about classes, speak about games...
And now I'm seeing that my son is speaking with a girl of his class, saying that they love each other...
He tried to hide and doesn't want to speak about it. He doesn't know I saw their texts.

He is so young! How is this possible?! Is this normal? What should I do? What do I even say, so he won't push me away?

Have some boundries with his phone for starters.

Why has a 10yo got phone access to people you don't know about?

Why doesn't he know you saw their messages? At that age he should be fully aware you will check his phone regularly.

If you give kids grown up tools, like a smartphone without adult supervision, the they will try to act like grown ups, but not have the capacity to deal with all that entails.

If you're going to give a child that young a phone, you need to have a frank conversation about what is acceptable, and have full access to his phone.
