How tired do your children get?

I always worry about my children's tiredness levels but I have no idea what's normal. My children are in Y6 and Y4.

Do your children get tired and grumpy towards the end of each half term? They only do one club and one swimming lesson per week so aren't over scheduled really and we have low key weekends. I never know if I'm over worrying (I probably am) or whether they should be going to bed earlier. The 11 year old has dyspraxia and struggles/has always struggled with getting to sleep.

The 8 year old sleeps 8.15pm-6.30am ish. The 11 year old sleeps 9.45pm till 7.30am ish

Would love to hear some examples of children similar ages - when they're babies there are lots of parents to hear what they're all doing but I never know these days as we don't talk about that stuff now they're older!

As I teacher I'm also tired and grumpy by the end of half term, especially the Xmas term - it's incredibly long. If they are waking without needing an alarm/being woken they are probably getting enough sleep. If they need waking then I'd bring bedtime forward (even just for one or two nights a week).

Thank you :) Hope you manage to have a bit of downtime over half term!

Yes, they're both knackered.

8 and 11 here and they are in bed by 8.30pm.

8 year old is visibly tired by around 6pm. I swear she'd still nap if motivated to

My two are years 7 and 5 (aged 11 and 9) and sleep a similar amount and YES, they’re exhausted by end of half term. Emotions are all over the place in our house at the moment!

9.45pm is late for an 11 year old!

For balance, mine sleep later - the 10yo usually goes to sleep around 10 and 7yo around 9.30. The eldest sometimes needs a nudge in the morning at the moment, but the younger one has been springing up at 6.30 (about half an hour earlier than needed)

My boy in year 7 went to bed at 7.30pm as he was knackered. Year 8, 8pm, year 9 8.30om. Your kids are going to bed LATE. Children aged 11 need 9-12 hours of sleep each night.

My 6yo is sleeping 8.30ish to 6:45ish. He is tired and has been for a week or so. A quiet weekend has helped a bit, but he needs half term.

My 9yo has finally learnt to lie in, so is sleeping 8.30ish to 7.30ish. She isn't tired. It worries me my younger child is getting less sleep, but he has done for a long time now.

I think like babies, it’s variable with the child, and family norms. My 7yr old is 8.15ish-7.30 and nearly 10yr old 9.30ish to 7.30 - she loves a lie in when she can get one, and will stay up later if she can. They also get tired at the ends of terms or if weve had too busy a weekend.
