4 year old struggling playing with others..help

August born 4 year old, never had a problem playing with others. Went to nursery and now at school - no one from his nursery goes to his school.
I would say he is introverted until he gets to know people better. But he doesn't seem to know how to play with others at school or when we are out.
He doesn't realise not everyone wants to play the game he does and this will make him upset and then angry as a result.
He wants to play with certain kids but doesn't want to play the game they are playing..fair enough..but then will just start trying to play his game or getting in the way on purpose.

We are trying to give him lines he can use to talk to others, remind him he needs to use his voice and not everyone wants to play his game or his way.

Has anyone gone through this, is it normal? Any much welcomed advice/tips?

He is a good kid who just seems to be struggling with this and I think he is trying to hide it which makes him angry when it spills over.

Did this resolve? I also have a 4 year old finding it difficult to play at nursery school, although seems to manage well(ish) outside of school
