Tummy time tips please

Looking for some practical tips on tummy time! My little one isn’t a big fan and doesn’t do much of it yet.

How do you all manage to fit tummy time into the day — especially when they get fussy quickly? Any tricks or activities that helped your baby enjoy it more?

Also, roughly how much tummy time is recommended for a 4-month-old? Would love to hear what worked for you — thanks in advance
💕

I never did tummy time with my kid. He's 10 now and fine.

Tummy time on your chest/them looking up at you is nice! Whenever they're on the floor, I'd just put them down on their front first and sit there encouraging them until they got cross and then roll them. Do you go to any baby groups? Sometimes they don't mind the tummy time if there's another baby doing it that they can look at! At 4 months they're probably not far off rolling so even just a couple of mins a day will help encourage them (but tbh I wouldn't worry too much about it). Sometimes mine preferred being propped on a rolled up towel on their forearms and I held a book up for them to look at, you could try that maybe?

30s multiple times a day here because he hated it. The paed said his shoulders were weak and we had to do it. We also did gentle resistance with toys and our hands in a sort of benchpress to strengthen. Once he could easily lie like a sphinx resting on his elbows he was ok because it didn't take so much energy and he could see different things. At 6 months he can now roll and is starting to crawl so getting him off his tummy to change him is the current challenge!

Mainly in a carrier on my chest!

I never did tummy time on the floor, baby hated it. I used a sling a lot which "counts" as they aren't lying flat. She's 12 months now, and crawling/nearly walking fine. Don't worry about it, i think it's one of those recent things that causes more stress than benefit. I think it's more important to not have a baby in "containers" all day, like car seats or bouncers, they need time fully free to move around

I didn't do much because my baby was a champion napper and spent so much time asleep that there wasn't much time for anything else. He didn't crawl or roll till 10 months though... But when we did it, I found he tolerated it best if I lay opposite him on the floor and did it too (i.e. facing each other).

Everytime nappy change I would roll her over, until she started complaining. The minutes really add up that way.

Sling time counts and mine was a velcro baby so was in the sling most of the day
