Can anyone reccomend a very cheap smart phone for a 14 year old? He loses and breaks everything so needs to be cheap and preferably smart phone so he can use some apps at least.
thanks!

Have you tried CEX? They sell refurbished phones with a guarantee.

How cheap are you hoping for?

Do you not have any old ones? They’re free. We have a whole drawer of old phones that we are working our way through.

I got DS a Samsung A series from CEX. Cheap and does everything he needs it to do

Just got my daughter the cheapest functional smartphone I could find. She has her banking app on it and Life360 so needed to have decent memory. It was a Motorola from John Lewis and was £149. The cheapest they had. A sturdy case will prevent breakage, and a screen protector. They had insurance with no excess fees but I chose not to get that and just trust my child with a well protected phone. I'd have gone cheaper but the last phone was a cheaper Motorola and was just crap in terms of being really slow with too many apps. Memory was too low. That one was £80 a year ago from Argos.

CEX. If he loses he replaces or goes without.

This is why I want as cheap as possible as realistically kids need phones these days so my plan was for him to have a mega cheap one until unless be buys himself one.

Alactel 1. It cost me £30 5 years ago. Its a good smartphone, the batteries abit rubbish but you can use apps on it.

Nat6999 · 05/10/2025 03:47

Any of the Samsung A series phones, you can get them from £139-£500

I just got a Samsung A06 off Amazon under £70. Good reviews and does everything I need from a smartphone.
