Toddler hitting at daycare

My son is 2.5 and is very sweet but also really pushes his boundaries atm. We have switched daycare as we moved. For the past 3 weeks, every day I’m begging complaints at daycare that he is hitting and pushing, including his teachers. Sometimes I wonder if he’s bored as he’s in a small group with slightly younger / less developed kids. I keep asking the teachers what they are doing about it but their response has been for us to get him a book on being gentle. They also seem to be doing free play a lot rather than having a routine which I asked about when we moved but the story seems to have changed…

Is this normal behaviour for his age?? I feel so worried and also upset they think he’s so difficult.

thanks

All kids do this to other kids m, but pushing and hitting adults too. You need to have the same consequences at home as there are at Nursery.
waste of time doing it at Nirsery if home is told X we don’t hit in this house, we use kind hands .

They’ll learn eventually

What's he like at home?

Our nursery wanted me to teach my son sign language i told them he talks at home (delayed but still able to communicate) they were shocked he rarely said a word there

I assume its because he probably misses his friends. Even children know things and understands things an adult would understand, such as moving around. Or being disrespected, etc. I think the best course of action is reading books and maybe listening to music.
