There's got to be something wrong with my 8 week old

As the title states im really starting to think theres somwthing wrong with my 8 week old baby. He's not my first child but certainly the most difficult, and my first born had colic. He never stops crying! He only sleeps for about 1 hour at a time and wakes for 2-4hours sometimes longer, he's like this all day and night so im exhausted and obviously sleep deprived. I have spoken to my HV about the issues a few weeks ago and she suggested it could be reflux, so I tried all the methods and suggestions, and all it achieved was adding constipation into the mix. He does bring up his feeds sometimes through out the day, he tummy sometimes sounds gurgley, he constantly has wind regardless of how much I wind him, hes always unsettled and crying even when hes in the pram or car and especially within the hour after having a bottle. He has 2ounces every 2 hours.
None of this is new for him, he's pretty much been like it since birth. Has anyone else experienced this? Was there something wrong, or is this just my life now?
I have already taken him to the Dr's when he was 5 weeks old and he just fobbed me off n suggested I'm just exhausted and would benefit from a break from him 😒 I have another appointment booked at the end of the week

Wow I could've written this word for word for my 9 week old. Also not my first baby. We're on omephrozole for silent reflux and we've had to stop breastfeeding and move on to completely dairy free formula prescribed from the GP. Wishing you well Op. I cried many, many days. It's so hard!

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 30/09/2025 17:22

Have you looked into CMPA? Sorry if that’s not helpful, but my daughter was the same and it peaked around 8 weeks. You have my sympathies, she’s 5 now but I’m currently pregnant again and I do carry the trauma of those long days and nights

Another vote for silent reflex and CMPA!

And another.

Are you breastfeeding? If so try cutting dairy from your diet.
If bottle feeding try a formula with no cows milk protein
I hope you find a solution and he settles soon

Has the change in milk helped? Was it difficult for you to be taken seriously by your GP? I'm dreading the fight I may potentially have with the dr after I wasn't taken seriously last time 😞

As others have said if BF stop eating dairy and see how it goes. Both mine had CMPA and there was an improvement within a few days of cutting out dairy although it took a couple of weeks for the full effect as they’ll have inflammation that’ll need to settle.

WhimsicalCupcake · 30/09/2025 17:39

I'm not breastfeeding unfortunately it didnt work out for me so hes formula fed. I definitely will be asking the Dr to be looking into CMPA! Hopefully it will be as simple as a change in milk for him.

Is he happier sitting up or being held like over your shoulder than he is lying down?

idontknow54789 · 30/09/2025 18:17

While you’re waiting for the allergy formula I found goats milk formula really helped as well. Kendamil do a good one.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 30/09/2025 18:26

My youngest was similar. He was prescribed dairy free formula which helped.

Haribomum7 · 30/09/2025 18:27

Your baby has reflux. I think lots of babies with ‘colic’ actually have reflux. You need to go to GP and mention this , unfortunately the medics seem to ignore this a lot. 2 of mine had rantitadine and gaviscon and they changed from crying 15 hours a day to a smiling baby within a few days. I actyrool my middle one to hospital where he was diagnoses it makes me cross that there’s not more information out there 20 years later 🥲 many babies with reflux are also lactose intolerant.

Lullabycrickets23 · 30/09/2025 18:31

I used to nanny for a family and their second child was like this. It was very very hard for everyone!
Turned out she had reflux and CMPA.

EllieWales · 30/09/2025 18:43

Mine was also similar he had reflux and we tried everything and anything available to ease it. I know it’s the last thing you want to hear but the only thing that helped was time. By about 4 months he was a much happier baby. It will end, rest when you can I feel for you

It has a bit but he's still a poor daytime sleeper and unsettled a lot unless held. I lost my shit at the GP, my other children were the same and without question they gave me the milk we needed. We're on neocate now - go in with all his signs and symptoms, do your research and go in ready and knowing what change your looking for. Our baby isn't as settled as your typical 9 week old but he is a lot better than he was. I totally get your frustration OP. I refused to be palmed off with anything orher than milk change as i had exhausted everything else!

Hellothere89 · 30/09/2025 18:48

My DS1 was like this - it was absolutely exhausting and I felt broken. I wasn’t sleeping and was put on meds for PNA. I was fobbed off by everyone, including the GP. Turned out he had CMPA and once he was diagnosed and I cut out diary (we were also given a special formula to use if DH gave him a bottle) it completely changed. He was like a different child. Push for answers and make sure they take you seriously - it does get better, I promise.

I have a feeling im going to have to be quite firm with the GP too, I refuse to be fobbed off again, I definitely want to leave with a prescription for change of milk

Another vote for silent reflex and CMPA!

And another, sounds like my baby first 2 month till switched to aptimil pepti 1

Lalapopo · 30/09/2025 19:22

Film the crying to show the GP at your appointment, in case they do they annoying thing of being absolutely fine at the appointment. My first was like this and had silent reflux. We spent a lot of our early months in hospital. The type of cry was what the consultant used to diagnose and then he ruled out other things.

Applematt · 30/09/2025 19:24

And another vote. Mine is 27 now and it’s shocking that things haven’t changed.

I’ll bet it’s silent reflux and cmpa.

Applematt · 30/09/2025 19:26

I told the gp (small village) that I knew where he lived and that I’d drop her off at 1am every night for a fortnight and he could give it a go. 🤣

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 30/09/2025 19:30

Another vote to consider CMPA. I also had a nursery nurse from the HV team come out on a home visit to teach me baby tummy massage techniques - you might find some helpful videos online too - eg bicycle legs and squeezing their legs up to their tummy. We had to cut both dairy and egg. Also got a referral to the dietician and the allergy team for testing.

Needlesnah · 30/09/2025 19:40

Someone I knew had to switch from dairy to goats milk formula - I think soya formula unsettled her as well but this was around 18 years ago so specifics are a bit hazy. Her little girl was very unsettled up until that point. The mum was at the end of her tether. We were in a different country and the paediatricians were amazing (a large percentage of the local population are unable to process dairy so it was something they looked for, to be fair). Keep trying with your GP.
