Night weaning my co sleeping 22 month old

Hi all

We are planning on re decorating bedrooms and moving 22 month old and 5 year old in to the same bedroom.

Currently the 22 month old co sleeps with me and wakes 2-3 times a night (on a good night once or twice) and will not settle unless I feed him back to sleep which happens very quickly.

We have tried to have DP go up to him for his first wake (usually a couple hours after bed time) but he screams until I go up for boob.

What is the best way to go about this and how long will it take? Absolutely not doing any form of cry it out. My eldest coslept with me until baby came along.

We’ve got 22 month old a full size single bed so that he hopefully takes to it since he’s been used to my bed!

I’m thinking of night weaning first, and then tackling the cosleeping.

Thoughts appreciated

Yup, 2 stage approach. Offer a sippy cup with water instead of feeding. He will cry, but you calmly rub his back and talk to him. It will take forever for the first few nights. If you persist though, within a week he will get used to it and then gradually stop waking up so much, and go to sleep faster when he does. When you get that sorted, you can try something similar to get him sleeping in his own bed, if you want to.

I bedshared with both of mine until they were sleeping through. I night weaned first (offered cuddles instead - one of mine was furious but less furious with dad, the other was furious but less furious with me) but didn't give any more boob while in bed. They were a bit younger though so I still fed them in the day. Took a couple of nights of pretty cross toddlers but I was there offering whatever comfort they'd take and then they slept much better. A few months after they were both sleeping through and I moved back to my bed (had been sharing a double mattress on the floor).
