Is my baby’s head too big?

My baby has always been big, measured big when I was pregnant and was born about 9lbs. He was on the 91st-95th centiles for everything pretty much when he was born. Now he’s on the 95th centile for weight. I measured his head and it’s measuring quite big, it’s coming just slightly above the top Centile (99.6th) line.

I have always thought it was a bit on the larger size but doesn’t look incredibly out of proportion if you know what I mean. I don’t know if I’m being too cautious taking him to the doctors. Is it normal for him to have a 99th+ centile head if the rest of him is 95th centile? Like is that just proportionate? Or is the fact it’s technically slightly off the chart make it a problem?

thanks ☺️

How old is baby?

It sounds fine. My baby is only 30th percentile for weight and 90th percentile for head circumference so your baby is much more in proportion than mine!

Just turned 9 months- his head is 48.5cm at the largest point. He’s meeting all his milestones and is physically and cognitively exactly where he should be! My husband has a big head too haha. I’m just a real worrier about things like this! I just worry as it’s ‘off the charts’ technically!

Souuds fine OP. I'm no expert but a DM of 4 and DGM of 2. Why not ask the health visitor to pop round and get some reassurance, then you can put this to bed.

Good idea @BettyBobblethe HV clinic is on tomorrow so I’ll pop in in the morning. He’s a big boy so pretty sure it’s just that. But the worry never stops does it! Thank you x
