Gap between Night feedingseo

Exclusively breastfeeding 3 months old baby

Sometimes my baby sleeps 5–6 hours at night. I’m glad he is sleeping, but I’m worried about my milk supply. I’ve had low supply before and worked really hard with pumping and frequent feeds to bring it back, so I don’t want it to drop again. After the first wake-up and feed, he sleeps again for 4 or 5 hours on some days so very much worried about my supply.

Should I be waking him up to feed, or let him sleep instead? How did you handle night feeds when your baby started sleeping longer stretc
hes?

The fact he is sleeping longer stretches suggests to me he is getting lots of milk and is not hungry. I understand how anxiety provoking milk supply can be. My babies also had difficulty with early weight gain and I was always worried about it. You are right that a night feed is important to supply, but you are doing that. If your supply dipped a bit and he wanted more, he would wake more frequently and up your supply again. He's not a little dopey newborn anymore and his latch will be better now too. Please try not to worry and trust that between them your boobs and your baby will ensure there is enough milk.

My supply didn't drop until my baby was on solids AND sleeping through AND also getting formula. They suckle very strongly at 3 months compared to newborn, it sends much clearer signals to your brain to make milk compared to a newborn. The feed after 5-6 hours, as pp send, will be maintaining your supply.

Thanks xx

When I weighed him today he has dropped in his percentile. So wondering if I need to start waking him up again
