Toddler not eating

So baby/toddler number 2 is 22 months old and has never been a great eater.

However the last few months he is eating less and less and has started going mad, like crazy for bottles again. he asks for them all the time and tantrums til he gets one. We where weening down and was just having morning and bedtimes but he has gone crazy.

iv tried everything to get him to eat. Large meals, smaller frequent meals, snacky type meals, help yours self buffet meals. Snacks only. He just isn’t interested. When he does eat 90% of the time it’s coz I’m spoon feeding him (we did BLW so Iv no idea how this is now his preference).

I know I need to drop the bottles but if I don’t give him the bottles he does cave. He just goes without food and drink. He has lost half a kilo in the last 2 months!

yesterday as an example. Is had a few spoons of cereal and 2 bites of a crumpet for breakfast. 1 small slice of cheese pizza for lunch, ignored the salad, half a small piece chicken and 1 spoon of sweetcorn for dinner. Snacks I think he had a bit of watermelon and maybe a few bites of apple. Was offered several snacks but turned his nose up at them. And this is fairly typical each day volume wise.

At nursery again he doesn’t eat much and o. The app it often says either just tried, or ate a small amount. Rarely we get an ate half of whatever he was offered.

Has anyone got any advise to try get him eating? My first goes through fussy stages but never anything like his boy!! X

Would he feed himself hand on hand with you guiding him?
There does seem to be some variety in what he eats. Could he be teething? Or has any change prompted the change e.g. tummy upset or illness.
The Infant and Toddler forum has lots of advice sheets for feeding difficulties.
Have you tried your Health Visitor?

It sounds as if he is eating. Toddlers don't need much. Sounds like a decent variety of food too.

He’s actually lost weight @ExcitingTimes2023? Has he grown really talk in that time?

Losing weight isn’t typical. I think you’ll need to see the GP.

Have a read up on ARFiD before you wed the GP and take your Red Book with you and ask the GP to rebord his weight and height. HCPs will need this as a baseline if he gets a referral.

Has your HV done the 2 year check yet?

@24Dogcuddler i don’t think he is teething and no upset tummies i can think of. He was sick 2 weeks ago but this started a fair bit before then. I haven’t spoke to HV yet but I did ring my local infant feeding support team today and got some advise.

@Slinkyminky22 ah thanks! I do actually feel a bit better about it all now. It’s just stressful as he has lost weight. Not stayed static actually lost weight.

@BunnyRuddington yes he has lost weight. All be it on my home scales so not as accurate as when HV weights but 2 months ago he was 11.5kg and now he is 11kg. I wouldn’t say he has shot up in those few months either. He hasn’t had a 2 year check yet and from previous experience I won’t be expecting a visit til he is closer to 2.5. I did ring the infant feeding team today for advise though. I’m going to try to weigh him again and see what the scales say and then I’ll give them a call if he has lost anymore!! Sod’s Law he ate more today then he has in weeks. Still
not much but much better then he has been doing x

Can you get to obe of the weigh-in clinics to see how much he weighs in their scales?
