Child struggling with friends

Hi,

I would value your advice and opinion regarding my 8 year old son. He has told me that the friends he plays with don't let him ever choose the games to play or have any part in deciding what they do. They sometimes go off and talk in secret and won't let him listen. My son has been really upset about it. Obviously it's kind of broken my heart.

My son struggles with dyslexia and tourettes which impacts his learning and he already has low self esteem as he is recognising how he finds many lessons challenging and is starting to compare himself to others. I've listened to him and encouraged him to play with others (he goes to a small village school so obv his choice of people to play with is minimal).

Is there anything else you can advise me to do/ say. It's left me feeling helpless and sad really.

Thanks in advance.

All you can really do is speak to the teacher

Definitely make the Teacher aware and the SENCO. Does the school do any games at lunchtime that the pupils can join in with? Our Primary did things like Fit Friday where they’d play lots of fun games.
