I'm thinking of getting some 2nd hand size 2 fluffles (poppered) to use as birth to potty nappies. They are a for a friend on a budget, new to cloth with no tumble dryer.

How are they for containment?

TIA

lollipop, I wash mine on a 2 short washes rather than one long wash, a cold one to sort out the wee and then a 40. Takes less time overall I find and brings them up fine.

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2008 14:46

how come the cold wash makes them smell less?

onepieceoflollipop · 01/06/2008 14:54

Franny I am not convinced that the cold wash/pre rinse does make a difference.

I have always rinsed all of my nappies prior to washing at 40/60. (I alternate between the 2 temperatures for economy/ecological reasons)

The fluffle still smells. The other nappies (all cotton) don't. Occasionally the thick cotton tots have a very faint lingering smell, usually in Winter if I have had to dry them indoors rather than out.

I have read before about the smell
the nappy advisor woman who recommended them to us said she felt it was sometimes people putting them away before 100% dry (as they feel dry when come out of washer)
but we all know synthetic stuff smells more, qv nylony shirts etc

A size 2 fluffle will be huuuuuuge on a newborn-they are bulky anyway. DS is almost 6 months and the size 2 still looks massive on him whereas a bamboozle or bumble fits ok.

For size 1's I have found bimbles fit a small baby better than tots do, especially the nippa ones, and the fleece pocket makes them easy to boost for nights etc.

Both of mine were 7lbs ish and size 1 nappies fitted from 5 weeks or so, size 2's from 5 months ish (size 1's also still fit at this age but this is when the size 2's stop being mahoosive).

The size 2 bambineo is the only one that fit ok from earlier on, but when it was bigger on it didn't contain poo very well as tended to droop around the crotch.

Franny interesting point,I find the same with synthetic blouses etc and I don't even sweat very much. Once the smell is "ingrained" then it is almost impossible to shift.

I definitely don't put anything away wet, even a fluffle I would leave to "air" overnight at least. Also surely if that was the case they would smell mildewy/damp rather than of lingering wee? (i.e. the same smell you get if laundry is put away damp, not just specific to nappies)

BigBadMouse · 01/06/2008 15:25

odour remover specifically for MF nappies.

well I managed to pick up some bargain nappies at the car boot this morning for her I'll get a a few size 2 fluffles for when the baby is a bit bigger and carry on looking for newborn/small bargains too! I shall find out about nappy schemes for her.
