Which car for three car seats?

Hi everyone I desperately need some advice. I have a toddler and I'm pregnant with twins. My toddler will be 2.5 years old when the twins are born. Does anyone have any recommendations for a car which will fit all three car seats on the second row (I don't want my toddler on a third row by himself because I won't be able to pass him his water and/or snacks!) and one which I will be able to get him to the middle seat potentially between two isofix bases. I'm going insane looking at all the different options online and test driving different cars because I'm worried I'll make the wrong decision and it will make my life 10x more difficult than it needs to be. Thanks in advance!

Have a look at Alphard's, they are a Japanese import and we had a 7 seater. Amazing cars with loads of space, sliding rear doors and a huge boot area if you don't use the third row of seats. If you want to know more pm me.

I would join a car seat Facebook group as they keep updating lists of cars which can do seats with 3 across and how you can do it.

E.g car seat safety uk or extended rear facing

The hosts are car seat retailers so will give advice on specialist seats if you buy through them.

This was us and we ended up with a Citroen Berlingo which we LOVED. Looked like a milk float but fitted all three kids in a row and a huge double buggy in the boot. Other good ones are the VW Touran and (higher end) Volvo XC-something and Audi Q7. Generally French cars seem more likely to have three full seats across.

Here is the full list that TwinsTrust put out when I did their course, will be a few years out now:
•Hyudai Santa Fe
• Vauxhall Antara
• Ford Galaxy
• VW Touran
• Peugeot 5008
• Volvo Xc90
• VW Sharan
• Kia Sedona
• Ford S-Max
• Chrysler Grand Voyager
• Land Rover Discovery
• Seat Alhambra
• Citroen C4 Picasso
• Hyundai I800
• Nissan NV200
• Toyoto Verso
• BMW220i Gran Tourer
• Mercedes Viano
Or Multi mac bench seat for 3 or 4 car seats.

MultiMac will have all the ERF lot up in arms but some people love them.

Also consider that you can use belt fitted seats or bases and not use the isofix. Which is what we intend to do, hopefully! 🙏🏼

We have a Peugeot 5008 and it’s great. Multi Mac safety rating is really poor.

Vw transporter kombi.........has a bench seat with three adult size seats and seatbelts behind the driver and passenger seat then plenty of room in the back for buggies, bikes, scooters and all the other paraphernalia as they get bigger. Also has the added advantage that the driver can get through the two front seats into the bench seat area if you need to sort kids out.

Actually it's not just to fit three car seats in as at some point (3 sons) their shoulders become to big to fit across the back in a normal car😂

Mossstitch · 27/08/2025 15:51

Sorry did something wrong then trying to edit, just wanted to add that it's not just the necessity to fit three car seats you need to think of as eventually their shoulders become to big to fit across the back seat, my last VW lasted over 20 years.

Citreon Picasso c4 or Renault scenic both have 3 individual seats.

Thank you so so much everyone for the recommendations. There were some cars here I hadn't even considered, and I am definitely checking that fb group out. Thank you!

Peugeot 5008 here for the same reasons but make sure you avoid the Allure engine as it has issues with the wet belt (aka stupidly designed timing belt)

We had the reverse (2.5 twins and a newborn) and went for the Peugeot Rifter (which is the same as the Citroen Berlingo). It comes in either 5 seats or 7 seat versions, and either a standard or XL wheelbase. We have the 7 sets with XL wheelbase, which gives us loads of room. In the end, it was between this and a VW Sharan - what swung it is that the extra 2 rear seats in the Rifter are two separate seats, so you can access them via the boot even with three car seats installed across the middle row, whereas in the Sharan with both in use you can only access through the middle row. The downside is that you can't use car seats with a support leg on the third row in the Rifter / Berlingo, which may become an issue for us as they grow.
