Nanny banging on window

Ready to be told I’m being uptight!

We’re lucky enough to have a nanny who cares for DS 10 months for a few hours a week. I have noticed that the nanny regularly takes DS to the window and bangs / taps on it, presumably to show him the type of sound etc it makes and explore another texture.

But whenever she does this I am transported back to my childhood and my mum being really annoyed when me and my siblings touched her windows (with good reason - we always left a load of marks all over them!). And as such, it really grates on me whenever the nanny does this.

I appreciate that DS will likely put his fingers all over the windows regardless as he gets older, but I don’t really want him to be encouraged to learn that it’s ok to do this in our house or elsewhere - quite the opposite in fact! And I’m worried that her teaching him this will give mixed messages when I try to stop him from doing it.

Am I justified in being annoyed by this / would it be reasonable to ask her to stop, or is it usual to encourage kids to bang on windows / am I being uptight and denying my baby a sensory experience?!

We live abroad so there may be a cultural difference at play here too.

Thanks!

shes letting him touch different textures and listen too sounds, windows are fascinating to little ones as you can see through them but can’t touch beyond them. She sounds fabulous and good at her job! You’ll soon have sticky hands everywhere maybe you can use this as practice

Banging on windows (for the sound) is very different to tapping on them to explore or point something out. If the latter, leave it.

Just ask her not to do it

If you have windows or glass doors that are at his height when he starts walking/crawling he will put his hands on the windows and also bang. This will happen regardless whether the nanny bangs the window

If he needs to be held up to the window the he won't be able to reach so there will be no banging or touching.
But if he does touch the window then just clean it, children touch things.
