My son is 13 months. There a few things I find concerning.
It first started with the constant flapping his arms. I know this is also a normal part of a child's development so I initially didn't think too much of it. He also , when he's stressed covers his ears and pulls on them. He's done this for months. Again, I'd also read babies sometimes do this to self soothe.
Recently hes started exhibiting more usual behaviour, such as I caught him banging his head against the wall. He does this also in his highchair . Last night he started slapping himself in the face and again today.
He also does this thing clenching his fists really tight, engaging his core muscles and growling angrily. He seems to be doing this more as a form of communication with family members.
Do you think this is concerning behaviour Or a part of normal development I know he's probably too young for an assessment. He was a nicu baby .
He's always been a bit delayed with things like following with eyes, reaching out but he soon caught up.
He's a very happy child. Smiles, laughs, can respond to cues like clapping hands. His verbal skills are simply mama and dada and some A O sounds while babbling. He hasn't progressed to b's or p's yet.
Physically now he's good. He started walking at 11 months.
Socially , he's good too. He's cautious with adults first time meeting them but with babies and children he's crazy about him and loves seeing them and playing. He's awaiting for his 1 year review yet.
What you do you think ? Do you think this is something I should be bringing up?in the past I've found HVs completely unhelpful and judgmental, going so far as to say as parents were at fault for his early delays so I've avoided reaching out to them. I don't know if I should make a gp appointment to discuss my concerns, or do you think this is really a bit early in his development stage yet
