Social media type content on other apps

More and more apps seem to be including social media content. Driving me mad as I’m trying to limit this for DD age 12 but it’s not easy!

I agreed to let DD have WhatsApp thinking it was messages only. Then I found they have added “channels”, basically very similar to Insta. Doesn’t seem to be any way to turn off the channels function?

We also have a family Spotify account, as I’m happy for her to listen to music, but I’ve just discovered she can watch Tiktok style videos about all sorts on there. She’s been watching ones about trans and furries for example- I realise she will know about this stuff, I’m not naive, but still don’t want her watching endless reels saying god knows what about it all. Again, I can’t seem to find any settings that allow me to make her account music only??

So sick of this endless creep of social media/Tiktok style content.

I must ask, what's wrong if she knows about trans people and furries? There is nothing inherently sexual about transgender people or furries.

Oh I’ve got no problem with her knowing about these topics or any others, she does already, we’ve talked about them and loads of others, including plenty of quite adult topics.

It’s not really about the topics per se. It’s the effect of watching an endless stream of these bite size videos, often with their own agenda or slant, which I believe has a negative effect on mental health. Same applies for any topic really - beauty or celebs or whatever. I just think her brain is too young for the world of algorithm generated feeds and doomscrolling.

yea it is really annoying how Spotify did that. Its an app for music and podcasts, not videos
