Advice on bed wetting

My son is 3.5 and has been dry through the night since last October. He’s had the odd accident, mostly when ill but for the most part will get up and use the potty in the night time. This has all fallen apart these last few weeks as we’ve been camping and then on a visit to an Airbnb and tomorrow we’re going on another short UK holiday. This means he’s had no bedtime routine so he has gone down at late hours, he’s also had a stinking cold and been away from his own surroundings. He has been wet more than dry this week, so I’ve put him in a pull up overnight as drying wet bedding in an Airbnb is just awful. He hates wearing these but they are effective. With another 4 nights away I’m thinking of keeping him in them.

Here’s my question though - am I encouraging a regression? Will he get so used to peeing in the pull ups that the bed wetting continues when we’re home? I don’t want to set him up for this but the alternative is I set alarms throughout the night so I can wake him to go on the potty. This seems bonkers. What should I do?

Are you still able to buy the absorbant bed sheet/pads that can be made up onto the bed but catch everything? Would that be an option if the pull ups seem like a backward step? Both my boys were alot older when we were at this stage and pull ups were a no no as seemed too young at the time? You can even add an extra thin sheet over the top, if they move the absorbant sheet around during the night, will be alot easier to launder this than proper bedding. ??

Thank you for replying, I will look into this. He does like to pile his duvet up in a big lump and sleep on top of it though so I’m thinking the pull ups might be safer. I’ve just put him down in his own bed without one though so we’ll see how he does. Off for our break tomorrow…
