Terrible wind and mild acid reflux, when did it stop?

Our baby boy suffers from this. He had his tongue tie cut, this did nothing. We have tried infacol. I guess gripe water is our next step. We burp him well etc but he is fussy/uncomfortable from gas I would say 70% of his alert time and sometimes can’t sleep at night because of it. I suspect it doesn’t matter what we try, it’s something he will just grow out of when his systems mature, He is 5 weeks. Just looking for some words of encouragement to keep us going. Really trying to not let this beautiful period feel ruined by this but it’s hard and just want to know when I’ll be over?

I would get him seen by the gp. They can prescribe medication that will make him more comfortable. You may have already tried this, but keeping him upright for 30 minutes after a feed can help with reflux.

Definitely see your GP- my daughter was exactly like that -we were referred through to the hospital and seen at 9 weeks where they gave me something to mix in her milk which helped. She still has low tolerance to dairy so things improved with it but she was still a restless sleeper until she dropped a lot of milk for solids later on. If you are breast feeding maybe lowering the amount of dairy you eat could help.

He is only breastfed, I could try cutting out dairy

Anterior tongue tie or posterior? Sometimes there can be both and the posterior one gets missed. Hopefully unlikely though.

Was he early at all? Sometimes early babies have this problem and will grow out of it fairly soon.

If not, then yes cutting out dairy could be worth trying but I think I’d wait a couple weeks and see if it seems to be improving on its own before you do this, as it’s really hard to do fully especially when you’re BF, and takes a few weeks to have an effect anyway. So if he does improve you wouldn’t know if it’s the lack of dairy that’s having the effect or just his gut maturing.

Thanks, he was late not early. I didn’t expect the tongue tie cut to have much impact as his latch was always fine/not gulping air. We try to keep him upright. I feel that a gp won’t help us as he is gaining weight ok? We have our 6-8 review in a a couple of weeks; so I guess we make a call then, if zero improvement. It really tough to see him like this and tiring.

My breastfed baby had this. It was dairy AND soy. I cut out dairy first and he was transformed within a week. Totally different baby. I realized it was soy too a few weeks later. About 50% of babies with CMPA also react to soy. Not gonna lie, cutting both out was incredibly difficult. Zero takeaways or eating out at restaurants. Not a single treat that was not homemade. Because if it doesn't have dairy, they replace that with soy. But my boy absolutely thrived. He's 1 now and still very, very allergic to dairy. A teaspoon of yogurt sent us to hospital as he couldn't stop vomiting. But he is very healthy.

It may not be dairy for you it's, it's rare for BF babies to react to the small amount of dairy protein in breastmilk. It's usually formula babies where it's more obvious. This is what the paedetrician told me, she just wanted to give him gaviscon and other stuff. I'm glad I didn't listen to her though...try it, be extremely strict, don't eat out for a week so you don't accidentally eat dairy and get false results. If no improvement in 7-10 days, it's unlikely that it's dairy.

Infacol is not recommended for acid reflux btw.
