Infant gaviscon, back to reflux milk?

Second time mum, first baby had bad reflux and used gaviscon without issue.
second baby has more “silent reflux” so I put him on anti reflux milk and it worked well.
At his 7 week check up with the GP she said they didn’t like reflux milks and asked I try gaviscon with a regular first stage milk which I was happy to try as it worked for baby 1.
it’s been less than 48 hours and the constipation is unreal. His stools are so dry and he is screaming and straining as he passes them which never happened on the reflux milk. His poops on the reflux milk were smellier and runnier but I think that’s because it’s easier to digiest and he passed them easily.
I want to just go back on the reflux milk - is this too much abrupt change for my babies tummy in a short space of time?? And even tho the GP doesn’t recommend, it seemed to be working ok for him.

I would move back, you know your baby best and the current milk doesn’t seem to suit him. I put my first baby on lactose free milk (family history of lactose intolerance) against the gps advice and it settled her immediately and she thrived. I think in these situations you know your baby best and are in the best position to make a call.

Are you giving the full dose of gaviscon? Both my DDs were combi fed (one had reflux, the other had silent reflux) with formula top ups but we only ever needed a 1/2 dose max, on occasion sometimes even just a 1/4 dose to help the reflux without causing the constipation. I have always thought the full gavsicon dose is way too much.

Yeah the full dose.

Yeah the full dose.

OK, you could try cutting down to a half dose then for a couple of days and see if that eases things.
