My DS is 4 (just) and has suddenly developed what seems to be an anxiety about weeing. He’s been potty trained since 2.5, dry through the night since just before he turned 3. For about a week he’s been weeing much more frequently, probably about every hour compared to his usually every 3ish hours. DH took him out for the day at the weekend and apparently he was saying he needed to go every 20 mins!
This evening while getting ready for bed he was saying he needed to go every 5 mins! I think it’s possibly an anxiety about wetting himself. He’s also drinking noticeably less too.
I’ll get the GO to test his urine just to file rule out an infection, but if it is an anxiety thing, does anyone have any advice on how to handle it? This morning every time he said he needed to go I successfully distracted him, and then he seemed to forget about it for most of the day (gabbing done it all day every day for about a week). But then from about 4pm onwards he was going more and more as the day went on.
I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty worried about ending up in a situation where he will barely drink! When I tried to encourage him to drink today he said no because it will make him need a wee. Previously he’s always been very good with drinking water. Help!!
