Dropping nap?

advice … my son is 2 and 5 months old.
his routeen is -
wake 7am
nap 1-2pm
up to bed 7.45
doesnt fall to sleep till 8.15 -8. 45

my son lays in bed for min 30 mins some times nearly 1 hour - I find it all depends how active the afternoon is , nap time is no problem straight to sleep near enough but evening he lays there for so long …. He is good he doesn’t call for me or fight bed time but he clearly isn’t tired enough at 7.45 - my problem is I can’t put him to bed later so I’m nackard myself,

question is - do I drop nap??
he’s starting pre school in sep ( mornings) and I am 25 weeks pregnant with my second so half of me doesn’t want to but half of me hates looking at the monitor and seeing him awake still. ( I don’t relax till he’s asleep)

any advice on what to do… keep as it is or drop nap?

We just went through this exact thing. I dropped the nap in a trial period and he was in bed and fast asleep by 7:10pm. He was definitely ready. While you're still pregnant I would try to drop it for a couple of days and see how he responds. Go up for bed time routine a little earlier though, he'll be exhausted x
If he responds negatively, you can always add the nap back in for now x

Yeah the first time we tried, same as you, a few months ago, I promptly put him back down for naps haha. We dropped it about 2 weeks ago and all seems to be going well. We have had a little more aggressive behaviour lately but I'm hoping thats down to an illness he just had 🤞

I would definitely try, you should know within a couple of days, good luck!

He wakes anytime from 6:30/7:30am, depends if the baby crying wakes him 🤦🏻‍♀️ breakfast is straight away he's always hungry. Snack around 10am. Dinner at 12. We used to do nap between 1pm and 3pm, and same as yours, he would wake up in such a mood!! Now we have no naps, so dinner at 12, snacks at 3pm, tea at 5/6pm and go upstairs for bath and bed around 6:15pm! In between those food breaks we might do the park, softplay, walk or just TV chill time while I try and survive a bad day with the baby 🤣

My little girl is very similar, she’ll lie in her cot for 30mins before falling asleep, she doesn’t call for me at all. And talks to her teddies, “reads” a book etc and it’s nice wind down time that she enjoys - I don’t think it’s a bad thing for her. She naps about an hour most days at nursery still and catches up at the weekend - she could nap for 3 hours at the weekend but mostly 2 hours.

I was out with her today and she only got a 45min nap in the car at 3pm so was really tired…but still had her 30mins wind down time in the cot before actually falling asleep

A lot harder! I feel like I never stop. When the babys napping I'm trying to entertain or feed the toddler, then I'm just about to eat, brush my teeth or do anything and bam, baby wakes up. Doesn't help he is a velcro baby with colic 😬 I never had that first time around. It is a lot harder, a lot a lot, but watching them together, honestly, all worth it xx
Congratulations on your second 🥰 you'll have to let us know when they make an arrival ☺️ x

Does it have to be all or nothing?
My daughter was at first ok with missing a nap as long as the next day she got a nap. Then she went to two naps a week. One midweek and one at the weekend.
