Is it fair to drop your only dc off at a holiday activity and leave them

I have a only ds who is 7.
I have booked him onto a one day soccer camp tomorrow.
Do you think its fair to take your dc along to things like this with no mate, sibling, etc in tow, or for there to be nobody there that they know.
I also feel strange myself at times taking my ds to things like this when I don,t know anyone myself, I am quite shy and always find it easier to go with somebody to places although I rarely have anybody to go with.

Does he want to go?

I am sure he will have a great time. A couple of years ago I booked my DS1 into a weeks football thingy not knowing if there would be anyone there that he knew.

Both DS's have been to the local sports centre to do different things and in both groups there has been no-one that they knew.

If he is happy to do this, then you have nothing to worry about.

I have to be honest I have mentioned it to him but I am not sure if he thinks that some of his mates from school may be there, or if he thinks its organised by school as he does it after school usually.

From past experience my ds has been a bit funny if he finds out none of his mates will be there.
I am thinking that once he is there he will be okay.
I do feel quite bad for him with this sort of thing, as I find that many children are with mates, siblings, as thier parents are sometimes in a group where they all know each other.
He hasn't said he doesn't want to go.

Yup! Why not? He'll make friends quickly I'd imagine.

Well he is quite sociable at school anyway.
He does hold back a little at times at joining in where he doesn,t know the place or people.
He seems okay once he gets going though.

I'm sure he'll make friends.

My dd (7) is quite shy until she gets to know people. She's started going to drama and knew nobody there when she started. She's only been going since afetr the Easter hols and races trhough the door each week without a backwards glance. She came out the first time saying "I've got a new friend called x, and I talked to a nice girl called y".

If he likes football and wants to go i'm sure he'll be fine (i've got an only DS who is 7.5 and i've been in similar situations). TBH I find my DS is better once i've left. I always make sure I go back a bit before the end to watch him - he seems to like that.
