Very clingy child - looking for advice

My 14 month old is very attached to me, which is lovely but also quite restrictive.

This wasn't really an issue beforehand as they were my only child, but I now have a 6 week old baby which is making things more difficult.

For instance, if I go out with a friend and I need to feed baby, my toddler will not even take food/snacks from anyone but me. He won't be picked up by anyone else but me. If I try and leave him with anyone else he has a meltdown.

He is such a a lovely boy, and to be honest it upsets me that no one else gets to see that as he is not friendly to others.

Is this normal behaviour? Does it mean he is not securely attached to me? Is there any advice on how to encourage them to get used to other people?

Means he’s just tiny and not used to sharing you. I’ve had a smaller gap than planned between dc2 and dc3 (not quite as small as yours) but basically your elder child is still a baby themselves and most times would still have mummy all to themselves. It’s nothing you’ve done it’s just developmental

@Arghhhhhparty thank you that's reassuring to know that it isn't anything I've done. I always worry whether I could have done something differently. Do you have any advice on how you managed with two having a small age gap? What activities did you find worked? What would you do when feeding the baby to entertain the other?
