Christening and god parents

Finally persuaded dh to get dd christened and v excited. We decided to opt for friends as god parents as have one sister and two sister in laws and thought bad if one got left out, as church like you to be traditional and have two god mothers and one godfather, also thought nice to give bestfriends an official role. My sister has got a bit huffy. have i made the wrong choice or shall I stick to my guns.

Stick to your guns.

Your sister has a role - she is DD's auntie.

For me, godparents are there to expand the child's family circle. So, best friends are the ideal choice.

your daughter, your choice.

Just tell your sister she already plays an important role in your DD'S life and you've made a decision not to include family as godparents.

Thank you I feel soooo much better. Sister is dd legal guardian as well and got the feeling that my mum is stirring as my sister seemed fine when I told her and it was my mum who said she was a bit upset.

i felt the same, aunties already have a role in dd's life (she never sees her, but thats a different issue) so i chose my best friend. i really regret it now though. we are no longer close like we used to be. she split up with her boyfried, who was dh's mate, so we dont go over to her as a couple anymore. (she lives 15 miles away)
i cant always find the time to go to see her, so see her about once every 2 months.

we used to be very close, and not seeing her so much had ruined our friendship as i think she should make more of an effort as she is childless and god parent.

just make sure the friends you choose are going to be friends for a long time to come.

I think I have chosen great and enduring friends. Just hate upsetting anyone, but confident did right thing
