How to teach telling the time to 10 year old!

My 10 year old has SEN and really struggles to tell the time, both analogue and digital. Can anyone recommend some good videos or apps that explains it? I think I just make it worse when I try to!

This is a very useful thing for switching between the three modes and also for counting round the clock in chunks of minutes.

Mathsframe has many free games he could try, otherwise, get him telling the time as much as possible in your daily life.

Teaching Clock

Teaching Clock is an open-ended teaching resource to help primary age children explore telling the time in both analogue and digital formats.

As well as actively teaching, maybe get a clock that shows both hands and has a digital display. To help them see how the time looks in both formats. As you do the lessons and they become more familiar with it they'll also be absorbing what they see all the time on the clock iyswim

Try ravel children’s clock. It has 5 to and 10 past etc and the hands are named as hour and minutes. This is what I used for my son. He really wanted a digital/fit bit type watch but I wouldn’t buy it until he could tell the time on a normal clock. This clock is very good and he learnt how to do it quickly.

This was great for my boy, he’s dyslexic and was slow to learn but we focused on just the hour to begin with and the minutes have followed just by using time in daily life eg ‘come home from the park at quarter past’
