5 year old teased about his large penis

My 5 year old son is getting teased about having a large penis - he doesn't want to do sports now as he has to get undressed in front of his friends - he is really distraught about the situation.

My husband and I have shown him a 'trick' of how to get undressed under a towel, but could do with some other ideas on how we can improve his confidence in his body. Other than fast forwarding to teenagehood when I am sure he will be more than fine with the situation, we are a little stuck.

Call me naive but do 5 yr old tease? Are you sure they are'nt just curious, and surely underwear is not being removed while getting ready for sports, I would also speak to his teacher.

why does he need to strip of to change for sports?

unless it is for swimming i would have thought that he would have kpt his pants on.

mybrainaches unfortunatly teasing at this age does seem to happen. my dd has a girl in her class who is quite chunky and she was forever getting teased by the boys about her "boobs" when getting changed for gym.

Yes it is teasing - ha, ha you have a fat willy ..... etc. Yes, it is when he is getting changed for swimming and yes 5 year olds do tease - a lot.

I have told him to ignore/ tell them to mind their own business etc, but he still is very conscious

Five year olds can be quite expert at teasing, and often very cruelly too. I would accept that some might not realise HOW cruel they are being but it doesn't mean they don't tease. Sounds as though you're doing what's right for your boy by giving him strategies to deal with the situation, something he'll have to learn to do as he grows older. I'd also have a word with the teacher too - there shouldn't be a situation in school where other children should be able to see his bits and make judgements.

Thanks for your response. I hear what you are saying about the school situation, but obviously in boy's urinals they do see each other's private parts and his teacher is a young, 20-something female - which I am pretty sure he would not feel comfortable speaking to about the situation.
