15 month-old is hell

I’m at my wits end with our 15 and a half month year old. She still hasn’t said any words (she says mama dada but not in reference to us), she screams and yells constantly, she’s a nightmare at meals throwing food and cutlery on the floor and yelling in her chair. Bedtimes are such hard work, she has to go down asleep otherwise will scream blue murder and no attempts at sleep training have worked. She screams in the car so the furthest we can go is half an hour, if that. She pulls our older daughter’s hair and thinks it’s funny. If we tell her not to do something like smack the TV she just laughs. She is walking and physically quite capably, and she can be really fun and cute, but she’s just such hard work. Our four year old was a dream in comparison - by this age she had a handful of words and could ask for things like “nana” (banana). She would copy us doing tasks like pulling up weeds and putting them in a pot or taking washing from the machine and hanging on the maiden. She was sleep trained within a week of trying. Does anyone have any similar experience or advice? Does it get easier? I want to enjoy her baby years as she’s our last one, but I’m just finding her unenjoyable so often (I feel so bad saying that).

That sounds tough! It sounds like your first child was perhaps quite advanced in some areas and it’s important not to compare them with one another, as babies and children will never all do the same things at the same time! It could be that your daughter is becoming frustrated due to not yet having the language skills to express herself, it’s not uncommon and you may find that some time soon her language suddenly develops very quickly.
