2nd Tripp Trapp or 3 year old in a normal chair?

We’re expecting our 2nd when first one will be 3.5 years old. We want to use the newborn set again to have baby at the table while we eat and am wondering whether to buy a 2nd Tripp Trapp or put our first in a normal chair with booster if needed. Tempted to go for another Tripp Trapp as I like the 3 year old to have the ergonomic footrest rather than dangling feet but don’t know if it will be a waste of money. How long did your older kids use their Tripp Trapps for?

Tripp Trapp all the way. We used ours until the children were 7 and 8 and only got rid of them then because we were moving.

My 14 yo still sits on her Tripp Trapp. 🙂

I've never had a trip trapp but my children were both fully transitioned to sitting on a normal dining chair in every setting by around the age of 3. So personally I definitely wouldn't have been considering buying another

Another vote for Tripp Trapp. I find it annoying when I’m sitting at the wrong height at the table so I don’t think inflicting that on a small child helps with encouraging them to sit at the table, use cutlery correctly etc.

You can pick them up second hand for £50 if you keep an eye on Facebook.

We had a 3 year gap and bought a second Tripp Trapp. They used them for years. Much better posture on those than on regular dining chairs. Ours did extra duty as chairs for home schooling during lockdown! We sold them when we’d finished them and got a decent amount for them.

What sized 3 yo?
I'm expecting number 2 and we have just moved my almost 5yo to a booster seat or normal chair depending on the meal - sandwiches she's fine on a chair but a proper meal she needs the booster. She's very small and is only the size of a 3 yo at 99cm. She's struggles in normal chairs when we have eaten out or at my parents and has to be balanced on cushions. We didn't have a tripp trapp but her high chair could have the top remove so it was just like a tall chair. An average or tall 3 yo would probably be ok with a booster but a smaller 3 yo probably still wants a higher chair. We got our booster seat off a free site. High chairs and booster seats come up fairly often near us or family.

We didn't discover the benefits of tripp trapp until my eldest was 3, now they are almost 6 and 3 we have one each.
Definitely worth it for the fact they are at the right height and they can easily clean up after themselves, and they take up about as much space as a normal chair at the table.
The main downside is really the price, especially if you want all the accessories!
We did briefly go for a booster which worked ok and was super cheap, and very portable. But we needed an extra chair for long term guests, so it made it an easier decision to get a second tripp trapp rather than an odd chair.
I can't imagine using them as a teenager though, they are basically a solid bit of wood to sit on.
