Oh my my son is 18 and had just gone to Tenerife with two friends earlier this morning. I was worried like any mum it’s his first proper holiday with me. Not including school ones.
in Tuesday he got stung by a wasp. Shorts story is we had to go yo hospital and the doctor said it is infected and he needs antibiotics for 5-7 days. You can’t drink alcohol either and no food 1 hour before and 1 hour after. I could see my son getting upset and I more worried. He has give with his friends I told his friends to look after each other . But I am so worried. The other boys roll encourage him to drink

Yeah I’m afraid you might have to re-write this as it’s quite tricky to decipher.

I thought the main reason discouraging drinking while taking antibiotics was so that you didn’t get drunk and forget to take them.
i think it dates back to the Vietnam war and what the troops were instructed to do, or not do.

tartyflette · 11/07/2025 21:26

So — don’t drink until you are sick, if you’ve already taken the antiBs, and don’t drink until you’re blotto anyway.

Nix99 · 11/07/2025 21:39

I'm very confused; are you on this holiday with him or not?

Ponderingwindow · 12/07/2025 21:55

I can’t decipher the op.

there are some antibiotics that if you ingest even the tiniest bit of alcohol, like in mouthwash, you will get very ill. They are only prescribed in particular situations.

No

OK, it was just confusing with the references you've put to your son's 'holiday with me' but anyway as far as I'm aware (and I'm by no means a medical expert) then it is OK to drink on flucloxacillin but not recommended but from what I can gather it's not one of the ones that is an absolute no to drink on

Just to let you know Son home all ok
