I have a reluctant 7 year old reader who loves being read to (and is an advanced reading level at school), but rarely picks up a book on her own. The rest of us are bookworms including her older brother and it’s very much on my mind! Trying not to put pressure but also still do reading things and currently doing the summer reading challenge at the library and online where you can tick off books you’ve read and write reviews and get online rewards etc.
My DD loves playing the online games on the site - they are technically to do with books but only kind of vaguely, and she keeps asking if she can play them if she reads. My question is, how much would you allow online games (albeit to do with books) as a “reward” for reading. Is it sending the wrong message, like reading is a chore or homework? (I let her choose whatever she wants to read.)
