4 year old aggressive sometimes

He’s always had a bit of a temper. I wouldn’t say he’s a particularly gentle child. Most of the time he is kind, well behaved and is intelligent so a good chatter. Multiple people have commented how well behaved he is and preschool give him glowing reports (though once in last 1.5 years he bit another child, we don’t know why). They did say he struggles to regulate sometimes, whatever that means!

BUT, sometimes he can lose his temper and get agressive with me or his dad. He’s not like this with other adults.

we can go for weeks or months with him being fine, then have a day where multiple times he hits, and throws stuff at us. If we restrain him he’ll bite and scratch. This happens when he doesn’t get his way.

is this normal? It’s worse when he’s tired or hungry. But I thought by now he’d be more predictable.

the HV met him and said he shows no signs of autism. My MIL has knowledge of this and agrees

timeouts help but we literally have to hold
door closed and sometimes he can throw stuff around his room. He suggested that going o his room is good consequence.

most days he deals with his anger and temper without violence. So, why lose it on some days?
