Would you let a 3 year old play on the switch?

Just that really. Would you let your 3 year old join you and play games on the family switch? Say Paw Patrol Racing/Mario Kart with a steering wheel attachment, just dance, etc…

thank you

No, I don’t personally let my 7 year old on the switch. There are much more engaging things they could be doing and I don’t spend my time around my dc gaming anyway.

NC28 · 08/07/2025 15:12

Yeah I would. Why not!

You'll get a lot of mums replying who are much better than me though, because any free time their child has is spent roaming the woods learning about mushrooms or churning butter for their homemade sourdough.

If there is a family switch it would be unreasonable to not let the 3yo join in if playing when they are around.

We had a family Wii from when DD2 was about 4.

That is very different from giving a 3yo free access to a gaming device.

Brilliant 😂😂😂
I have a 3 yo and I would let him play an age appropriate game, why not? It's a screen just like a tv is. We played sonic games as kids and are not psychos or gaming addicts now!

Cutleryclaire · 08/07/2025 15:19

No. Just because I find it easier to have no screens than moderate a limited amount of screen time for little ones.

Totally!

I hate this “we must be doing something every minute that the child is awake” thing. Yes, take them put, read books, go for lunch, go to soft play or the park. That’s perfect.
But people should know where the line is - they’ve potentially got nursery all day then are expected to do other shit afterwards because it’s educational or wholesome.

What do most of us do after work/when the kids are in bed? We relax, watch Netflix, read, sleep, listen to podcasts. Everyone needs downtime and some people just don’t afford their kids it.

I’ll honestly never understand people who demand so much of their tiny kids. Must be competitive parenting.

24HoursFromTulseHill · 08/07/2025 17:21

No, but I only have one child so we're limiting screen time for our 3 year old because it's easy to do.

If I had an older child it would be unfair to stop them from playing whilst the 3 year old was around (but I'd make sure the game was age appropriate and set a time limit).

SJM1988 · 08/07/2025 17:24

Yes but only because my 7 year old has one. I wouldnt if we didnt have one available already.
My DS got his at 6 years off his grandparent no us. I wanted to hold out for a few more years

Bananarama2000 · 08/07/2025 17:25

No, we’re like above. No screens as opposed to limits. Kids are 12 down to 5

cramptramp · 08/07/2025 17:25

No.

alexalisten · 08/07/2025 17:29

Yeah why not

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 08/07/2025 17:29

Yes. I played animal crossing with my children when they were smaller and it was gorgeous. Sadly they don’t want to knock cherries 🍒 off trees or gather pumpkins 🎃 now they are older 😉

ForeverTired89 · 08/07/2025 22:33

Yes. We play the Nintendo Sports games and Mario Kart (my DD is 5).
