Frustrated Nursing Mom - HELP with Transition to Bottles

NCSUMomof2 · 07/07/2025 16:43

I'm a mom of a 9-month-old boy who's struggling with nursing and refuses to take a bottle. I'm feeling frustrated because he's not eating consistently, and I'm looking for any tips or tricks to help with the transition from nursing to bottle-feeding. I’d also love recommendations for bottles that worked well for your baby. Thanks, Fellow Moms!

At this age, why do you need bottles at all? I stopped nursing in the day around 9 months as he was on 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. He was nursing twice in the morning, twice in the evening and once at night. He's 10.5 months now.

Might as well give him some expressed milk from a cup, if you want to go away for a few days? Is that the reason?

You really are not meant to give bottles at all from 12 months as they're bad for teeth so your battle to get him on bottles is a bit of wasted effort this late in the game.

You've done the hard part, might as well ditch the bottle refusal nightmare

DS will only take the Lansinoh bottles. For us milk had to be heated back up to like body temp and I could not be in the room.

You say he's not eating well? Is he nursing too much? Around 9 months you are meant to switch to food first, milk second i.e. make sure he's hungry.

Have you tried some different styles of cup? I got mine drinking milk from a Nuby Mini Sip and Grip and a Tommee Tippee transition cup, and then a Miracle 360. I started with the mid morning milk, then afternoon, then bedtime - as that was when my little one was most amenable to change!

Try to get him to take milk in a sippy cup. Choose a free-flow one not one that needs to be sucked. We did this - stopped BF around 9 months and went straight to sippy cup!
