Day 2 - done well so far but now hysterical, wanting nappy back on - HELP!!

Dd2 is 2y7m and it being half term we decided yesterday to go cold turkey at home at least. For the time we've had at home, she's done every wee on the potty and we're chuffed to bits with her and she seemd really happy too. We went to a party late afternoon yesterday, involving 45 mins in the car either way so she had a nappy on for this then went to bed when we got back.

This morning, took night time nappy off and we've just been pottering about. Another successful wee on potty - hurrah! but then she and dd1 wanted to do dressing up and she started asking for her nappy. I said no and left it at that and she got HYSTERICAL and went on for about 30 mins and got into a right state. She wasn't having anything to do with her new pretty pants. I couldn't bear it so put a nappy on her and have come on here now. What to do?

Are pull-ups the answer for now? Or longer periods each day without nappy and some still with it on, trying to wean her off to over the next week? Or if we are going to stick with 'cold turkey', how do we cope with the hysterics? Dd2 is a proper drama queen and will cry until she's sick if needs be . Would really like to avoid this if poss!

my dd did this a few days into potty training. she just refused to take her night time nappy off.

eventually it HAD to come off - and she insisted on another nappy. in the end i just said, ok let me find one, put a skirt on her (nothing underneath) Peppa Pig on the TV and then promptly "forgot" to get the nappy.

later that day we went out and i put pants on. she had forgotten all about it.

if this doesn't work and she's insisting on a nappy i would use a pull up or something she can't really wee in comfortably.

not worth arguing with a 2.7 year old imo. DD2 is exactly the same (she is 3 in october).

good luck!

Cheers. Nice to know I'm not alone! JUst been to town and bought her some of those disgusting gimicky Princess pull-ups which she is highly impressed with. Have whipped the nappy off and haven't actually replaced it with anything - they are watching TV at the mo whilst we cook lunch and have told dd1 if dd2 starts squawking she can help her put the pull-ups on but haven't heard anything so far - so fingers crossed...

and you're sooo right about not arguing with a 2.7yo

ha ha.
it is a wonderful age - dd is full of chatter, always singing, very smiley.
but also very willful, determined and oh so independent and frustrated when she can't be. she is busy practicing her "dirty looks" too which is very funny though i try to be cross and not laugh!
