Speech at 2 years 4 months

My ds knows well over 100 words and is putting 2 and 3 word sentences together but not often. When will this evolve to being more conversational? I’ve seen other children his age who are speaking amazingly and nursery have highlighted he is delayed. Did yours go through a speech explosion at any point?

surprised nursery have flagged as delayed, that sounds fine by everything I've been told and my daughter is a month younger and far behind that.

My grandson is a similar age with very similar vocabulary. I have felt slightly concerned but his uncle, my son, barely said anything until he was 3 when he came out with complete sentences so I'm hoping he'll be the same.
