So, just curious really, after talking with recent acquaintance who opted for nappy-free existence from birth, with great success. Makes sense to me, but I'd be interested in hearing your success stories.

We EC from 10 weeks but with back up cloth nappies (at the start) moving to back up cloth trainer pants (later on) to normal pants.

It would take a brave parent to abandon all nappies right from the start.

Have had a quick google to learn more, so now know about 'EC'!

How would you advise someone who's interested in giving this a go? I have a good friend, first timer, who is very interested - she's living a dedicated alternative lifestyle so MN not an option (no electricity!). Any decent resources? Book? Groups?

I have this book Infant Potty Training by Laurie Boucke

I have heard this is a good read too Diaper Free by Ingrid Bauer

I know there is a regular meetup in London and an occasional one in Manchester, is your friend close to one of those ?

So what is a "dedicated alternative lifestyle" ?

Thanks for the information. Friend is in North Norfolk where she and her H have a fairly remote small holding and are committed to maxiumum self-sufficiency and sustainable living. Not strictly true that there's no electricity - I think they run their generator a couple of hours/week - but no washing machine and nearest launderette 6 miles away.

Plus she's keen to give birth and raise her child/ren in as conscious a way as possible.

We met up last weekend and we got talking to someone from NZ who enthused about 'nappy-free' (and the NZ midwifery care) and I agreed to do a bit of research and send the info on - I thought MN was as good a place to start as any!

My kids are all growed up and I would have liked to be more 'conscious' in my own choices, but I was young and easily swayed by too many external pressures and influences. Hey ho!

What about you? BabiesEverywhere implies a veritable brood!

I wish I had babieseverywhere it sounds fun. But my online name is a reference to a joke. I have one fantastic 21 month old DD and one baby on the way

You'll find loads of good stuff online, if you want to print stuff out for your friend.

Here are a few EC Web links.
