Mam bottles - what ages did you move teat sizes?

Hi everyone

Just wanted to ask if you guys used Mam bottles, at what ages did you move up a teat size.

We've been on size 0 since birth, hes now 6 weeks old and feel its taking too long to get thru a 100ml bottle (sometimes he falls asleep during the feed but wants more straight after we burp him), we tried a size 1 to test however a lot of the milk seems to dribble out so that seems to suggest maybe its too big.

Not sure whether he needs to get used to a size 1 and we should persevere or stick with size 0 for now as hes only 6 weeks..

I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the age, go by your baby, they show you when they are ready to move up. My daughter was using a size 0 teat for about 6ish weeks, she then was on 1 teat until she was about 5 months old (also BF), and went straight from a 1 to the X, the inbetween ones just didn’t work for her.

Thank you, if milk starts dribbling out that means the teat is probably too big for them right? tried a 1 but quite a bit was coming out of the sides of his mouth.

How long & how many times have you tried? They do take some time to learn and adjust to a new teat, there will always be some leaking initially with a change because they have to adjust and learn to suck/swallow faster.

Tried a few times over the course of 2 weeks but only once a day, maybe I need to buy more size 1 teats and try it for a few feeds in a row.

We have around 8 bottles we clean and sterilise in one go but only 1 size 1 teat at the mo.

I got told by a midwife if they fall asleep, and wake up wanting more, the teat is too small and it’s taking too much effort for them to suck, hence why they fall asleep x

My DS is 8 now but we used mam bottles (he was both breast and bottle fed). I'm sure he went on the X one from about 4mo. He was on 1 from about 5wks. X

yes I wouldn’t pay attention to age, go with what baby is ready for, I always used to have the next size up ready just in case and often found they were too fast for her, if baby stops taking bottles with fuss or messing try the next size. My DD only changed to size 2 at around 6 months and X at 8 months

Dairymilkisminging · 27/06/2025 22:34

You can get 0+ mam teats. My dd is on 0 and she's 7 weeks we tried the 0+ and it's too quick for her

I would say move up. It will take a few tries for him to get used to, make a bigger bottle of hes spitting up too much.
