Child that’s been abused has anger issues

My son aged 9, was abused by his father, tormented all the time in rough ‘play fights’ that were anything but playing. My son fought back. My daughter aged 12 did not have the same treatment, she was the golden child. I now have a non molestation against the dad.

My problem now is that if anyone wrongs my son, you can see this red mist descend on him and he gets into an uncontrollable rage. For example he was playing nicely on the trampoline with his friend patting a balloon back and forth. His sister and her friend got on there and his sister threw the balloon out of the trampoline 3 times. Instead of dealing with it or telling me, he gets into a complete rage in seconds and attacks her, to the point where he cannot calm down or stop himself.

It’s the same if he gets tackled at football, he won’t stop until he’s got revenge.

His father has completely mentally screwed him up. He is having counselling but do you think these feelings will ever go and he will get to a point where he can regulate his emotions ? I seriously worry for his future

Sounds tough,I think all the pathways in the brain have been learned and trained up that way. But they can learn new patterns.
It's a bit like when you move house, at first you keep going the wrong way but after a while you start to automatically take the right turning. But there's always an odd wobble!
Sounds like you're doing the right things, keep at it. Take everything that's offered.

He may benefit from DBT and trauma based therapy. You can also coach him in emotional regulation. You can find therapists at BACP.
