One year old cant walk after

Just taken one year old's cast off leg ourselves as instructed and when trying to stand up the leg is buckling and he is crying lots inconsolably when trying but otherwise is happy. He can't weight bare at all - was walking fine when the cast was on.

GP didn't watch him walk or touch the leg this morning but on observing him moving his leg a bit said was probably ok but wasn't his area of expertise.

Fracture clinic can't give an apmt until 5.30 pm tomorrow evening. They said encourage him to stand a bit till then but if it is too upsetting leave it.

The issue is he keeps trying to stand so it isnt a confidence thing and the leg keeps buckling and getting really upset.

Any experiences and should I stop him from trying to stand till the apmt?

Thank you.

Forgot to say leg is red but that could be because of the cast being on for 3 weeks as it is itchy too. Doesn't feel hot to touch.

Foot is ever so slightly swollen but again the cast was till the toes.

Not a medical person but I’d be tempted by A&E. But in reality I imagine that would only bring the care forward very slightly as you have an appointment coming up tomorrow anyway, so if he’s otherwise happy I’d wait until the appointment and do lots of activities that involve weight off the leg: A long pram walk looking at things, time sat in the bath, sitting at the table doing playdough/drawing/cooking prep, sat on you/next to you reading, playing or watching tv.

Take a photo of the swelling so you can track it throughout the day and take action if it changes.

Thank you yes. I just dont know if it is worth the probable 5 hours in a and e with him today!

Ok GP phone call said we can wait till tomorrow nothing will happen but if we really wanted to we can go to xray today before 4 and wait for an xray rather than a and e.

He didnt seem overly concerned about it so not sure whether to go or wait till the apmt now..
