Baby grunting all night

I didn’t realise how noisy a newborn would be at night.
All night long my lovely baby girl is grunting/sounds like a snuffling pig and none of us can get any sleep. This does not happen in the day.
is there anything we can do or is this just something she will grow out of?

IME she will grow out of it. We had it with our DD and again with our DS (5 weeks) though he is a bit quieter than she was!

It's very, very common. I was so worried when dd did this for a good few months. I recorded it and got the GP to listen. She said it was normal

Oh yes, the little piggy stage 😂 My second was crazy loud. I put the white noise machine on to help drown her out a bit. I can’t remember when she stopped but it did stop, I think probably within the first couple of months.

My DD did this . She was very swiftly moved out to a room . Baby monitor under my pillow . Still noisy but not so loud .

Aww, I forgot about this! It really was like trying to sleep next to a piglet. We couldn’t sleep at all.

It doesn’t go on for long. A week or so?

FruitPoppet · 23/06/2025 19:58

My LO is 13 weeks now and I only realised the other day that she'd stopped grunting at night. She must have stopped a couple of weeks ago. But I empathise, used to drive me nuts!

Mine sounded like a little goat for weeks! It gets better once they can coordinate their digestion a bit more. I found the white noise more useful for getting ME to sleep than the baby...

Dairymilkisminging · 23/06/2025 20:30

Mine sounds like a goat. She's now 6 weeks and still has the odd grunt but alot better than it was. I've found of she's been winded really well it's less

I’d completely forgotten about this stage! It’s infuriating and cute all at once. Little snuffle pigs.

My DS1 (now 11) made “creaking” noises when he was falling asleep and he still does it now! It must be some form of self soothing but it’s bloody noisy.

BrieandStrawberries · 23/06/2025 21:03

It's normal, she'll grow out of it. Mine sounded like a goat bleating, it really worried me at the time! But it doesn't last too long..thank goodness! 😁

Gettingbysomehow · 24/06/2025 07:10

DS never did this but it's probably because in the 80s we were told to lie them on their fronts. Now they all lie on their backs.

Gettingbysomehow · 24/06/2025 07:11

If I lay on my back all night with no pillow I'd grunt too.
