New babysitter struggles for a toddler - HELP!

My husband and I are ready to have some alone time, but we are finding it really hard for our 2.5 year old to settle with a babysitter. We've tried so many methods - slow introductions, giving him a new toy with the babysitter, explaining whats going on - but he gets so upset when we leave or if we leave we've had to come back. Don't know how to do this... getting close to giving up. He isn't at nursery yet, he's just used to having mum and dad around, so a new person seems really scary for him. Would love some advice.

Oh my goodness of course he’s freaked out if some random person is just coming to babysit. Hardly any kids would cope well with that let alone one who isn’t used to being left at nursery!! I would get to know a childminder gradually and then when he’s got to know them, then you could use them for babysitting too maybe. But honestly, just get a takeaway and wait till he’s older or more confident.
