if you can get a place, most universities have additional options that you can take to help you with whatever sort of writing you're struggling with - ie scientific reports, academic essays - through the support services
other than checking out what's on offer at your local FE college I'm stumped though - are you worrying because you haven't done any 'academic' stuff for a while or are your english quals borderline for entrance?

The Open University runs short courses (many online) including one called Start Writing Essays. This may be the sort of thing you're looking for.

The uni I'm at offers courses on essay writing for mature students or those who have been out of education for a while. If you're unsure, it may be a good idea to email/phone the admissions tutor for the particular degree you're interested in.

I did a "Studyskills for academic success" course. It was offered by CfaP (Centre for academic practice) at my most local University. It's a course aimed at people who haven't studied in a long time and it teaches about Essay writing and referencing, etc...!
It was £100 for a 10 week course (one night a week) and money well spend

Argh, for whatever reason I can't seem to open the University of Northampton website right now....well, I was going to link you to their CfaP bit, because they have some good info and downloadable stuff on the website...which might help you!
B- is pretty good though....
for what it's worth, analytical writing simply means that you don't just write the Info down that whichever recourses give you, but that you "analyse" it, i.e. show you understand what it means and the consequences of it...if that amkes sense...I am crap at explaining....

Sounds like a similar course as I did...I got some credits for it....but not many....luckily that was not a deciding factor for the course I chose...
