Passport advice

I’ve got three stepchildren who we have 50-50 custody of. We paid for and applied for their passports as we take them abroad every year whereas mum has only done so once. We also hold their passports for this reason. Just to add, she holds their birth certificates to make it fair.

Mum asked a few months ago for their passports, not because she is taking them away but ‘for safe keeping’. DH said no and explained that if she is taking them away then by all means, otherwise we would keep them as we go away most years. The same as she holds the birth certificates, unless he needs them for something specific, then gives them back to her.

We’re now looking at going somewhere in Europe in October half term. I’m worried she may have told the passport office they were lost and ordered new ones. Is there any way we can make sure they’re valid? I’m so worried we’re going to get to check in and find out they’ve been cancelled. Things have been very HC with her since we got married earlier this year, to the point that she has called the social services on us, removed my husband from being a contact at the school etc. all been resolved quickly with professionals but still very stressful at the time and this is something that won’t be able to be resolved, as they won’t be able to board the plane.

You could phone the passport office to check they are still valid
