Hip dysplasia - spica cast/open reduction

Hi, I am posting on parenting with the hope I will be more likely to find someone who has been through the same.

Our little girl is due to have an open reduction operation for hip dysplasia soon - she will be in a spica cast from waist to ankle (likely on both sides).

We are just looking for any tips/advice. How long did you need to take off work? Any items that particularly helped etc? We are aware of the maxi Cosi car seat rental which we are hoping to get.

Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks @dontmakeitaweproblem how old was your daughter when she had the op? How did you find the recovery/cast etc?

It’s a long story but she was 3,she was in hospital for 5 days and couldn’t put any weight on her leg for 6 weeks, the spica was down to one ankle and just to the knee on the other, she coped well once she could get to move around the cast was on for 4 months

Hey! Can you advise what car seat you used? Same issue here!

We was quite lucky the hospital gave us one to use can’t remember the name but it was a high back one with with very short arms so the cast fit, not much help
