Vest under 0.5 tog sleeping bag

Hello,
do I need to have a vest under a 0.5tog sleeping bag? The room is 26/27 degrees currently due to this heat wave! We’ve done everything to try and cool it down but it’s still very warm.
LO has a 0.5 tog bag and wondered if I have to have a vest underneath or can I just have a nappy on?
LO wakes up straight away if not in a sleeping bag unfortunately.

You don’t have to have a vest you can just use the sleep bag

OtterMummy2024 · 19/06/2025 21:50

I've gone the other way, vest and no sleeping bag. I thought LO wouldn't sleep without, but I have been surprised.

My DC just has a 0.5 tog sleeping bag on, nothing underneath.

Yeah, I'd be ditching the sleeping bag. So hot for them.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 19/06/2025 21:57

Mine is currently asleep in just a 0.5 tog bag and nappy. Would have just done nappy/maybe with vest but I just tend to find sleeps better in a bag.

Our room is 26c. She's in just a nappy and a 0.5 tog. It's an absolute sweatfest in there and I certainly wouldn't want any clothes on!

I just Google for the positive birth company's chart on sleeping bags and room temps if im unsure.

WhatMe123 · 19/06/2025 22:23

I'd say no op not tonight it's very hot

Mine gets cold legs when asleep which makes him grumbly so I'd go for bag and nappy, ditch the vest. Alternatively use a vest and tuck them in with a muslin to keep the draft and mosquitos off. My baby is a lizard though and prefers to be warmer than the guides say

This is always handy

DD is in a light romper and 0.5 tog bag again tonight - can’t trust her to be just in nappy as she has previous for whipping it off 😂 room temp is 26.3 🥵

We just put them in vests at that age and that heat

SchoolMum66 · 20/06/2025 23:41

When mine were babies I made them sleeping bags out of a cotton sheet for these hot nights, which was perfect. Not sure if you can buy such a thing; I can sew, so made them myself.

In Australia, where it's very hot for a lot of the year, from babies they are used to sleeping in just a nappy, no sleeping bag or even a sheet.

Thanks for everyone’s replies! We went sleeping bag and nappy, seemed to keep him at an ok temp!
