What are these spots on toddler?

I've been checking 2yo DS skin every day for spots because chicken pox are everywhere at the minute. There are confirmed cases in his nursery and 90% of his little friend group at home have them.
He has been clingy and irritable lately with a snotty nose. The other day I noticed a small flat rash on his thighs and thought this might be the start. But this morning the spots are still localised to his thighs, they're definitely raised liek little lumps and have a white halo around them? Don't look anything like chicken pox?
Could it be bites? Or allergies? Google is no help.
Thanks in advance!

Hand foot and mouth? My daughters started on her legs/back of thighs and definitely resembled chicken pox at first, even the GP thought so. I was only 100% confident it was hfm about a month later when her fingernails started falling off which is apparently a common side effect.

any rash should probably be checked by a gp or pharmacist though

Just saw the pics this is exactly where my daughters started. CP usually starts on the torso

They would normally look bigger by now I think. Might be hand foot and mouth?

He had hand foot and mouth when he was about 11 months and it started on his feet so I never even thought about that! I'll get him a GP appointment tomorrow just to check. He's definitely not well in himself.

I was going to say hand, foot and mouth too. In my experience the spots are much less obvious after the first time they have it- DD has had it 3 times we think and the first time had very obvious blisters, the 2nd had a few small spots, the 3rd no spots at all. But all the times she had random spikes in temp up to 39+ and was generally grumpy/irritable and off her food for about 3/4 days

Doesn’t look like the pox to me. If he gets it, it usually starts on the head or torso. You’ll know as the first spots are usually quite big and red. They come in clusters after the first few appear and then the waves begin. HF&M or heat rash maybe?

GP said none specific viral rash, so useless. Its still there though! It hasn't got worse or spread, bizarre. How's your toddler in himself? X

Thanks for replying! How frustrating not to really know, I’m glad it hasn’t got worse though. Is he feeling better in himself despite it?

Mine seems okay in herself, maybe a bit more tired and irritable than usual but nothing that couldn’t also be down to heat. We also wondered about chicken pox but they’re not super red or angry and don’t seem to be constantly itchy, although she had one spell of itching a couple and making them worse. I wonder if it’s just something similar - just a random rash because of the heat and/ or a virus. Very odd!

dontcomeatme · 21/06/2025 19:23

@Nomnomnewhe seemed to be getting poorly but then never really hit a peak or got worse or had a fever or anything so maybe just a minor viral thing? Our 2 do sound very similar, thankfully it doesn't seem to be chicken pox or anything. I'm finding it odd that the spots haven't disappeared yet! Viral rashes normally go as quick as they come. Keep me posted if your LO gets any worse 🫶
