How long does it take your toddler to fall asleep?

DD, 2.11 without fail takes an hour every single night. An hour of getting up and down like a jack in the box needing a wee, cuddle, drink etc and then talking to herself, rolling around in bed over and over, kicking the covers off, asking for them back on. It’s enough to drive you potty.

We dropped the nap 2 weeks ago because she was going to bed at 8 and not falling asleep til 9. Now she’s in bed at half 6 but not going to sleep til half 7.

We have a relaxing wind down routine, no screens before bed etc it’s like her mind just can’t switch off. Is this normal? Any tips?

Try not having a wind down, she might need a wild power hour instead! Mine certainly do.

We have a dance party or they rough and tumble with their dad, or go out on scooter/bike just before the bath.

They would be very antsy at bedtime if we didn't do this.

Thank you @Sakinanina she’s at preschool til 3:30 and then usually has 15 minutes of rough and tumble with DH before a bath, but maybe she needs more!

What time does she wake for the day? 7.30 isn't a particularly late bedtime even with a dropped nap, if they are up for the day after 6/6.30 for example. It takes mine 10 mins to fall asleep but he's exhausted usually and the whole routine takes about 45 mins including bath. He's 2y6m and sleeps 8-6 with a nap

So she was sleeping 9-6 with a 1.5 hour nap and now she’s doing 7:30-6:30 with no nap, so it probably all balances out. I’m just not sure if I put her down at 7:30 it would then take til 8:30, or if she would go straight down IYSWIM… maybe I’ll try it tomorrow.

It’s 50/50 here. Sometimes it’s 20minutes and sometimes it’s an hour+

Yes we do 8-6 with 1.5hr nap, can see bed pushing later still soon so when it does we will drop nap and we were told to expect 11-12hrs overnight max when we do (sleep consultant). It drops again as they get older
